My Father's Blue Coat (Realistic Fiction - Educational)

Updated: Aug 4, 2023

(The purpose of this post is for students to learn more in the topic of comprehension and writing ...)

It was a freezing winter day in London. My father and I were walking down Regents Park, huddling together in our new grey coats, trying to find some warmth.

"Why are we out again papa?" I asked frowning.

"I told you already! We are just getting some fresh air." Papa snapped at me. He had been angry most of the time. I did not know why.

Suddenly, it started to rain like cats and dogs.

"I knew this was a bad idea." I mumbled.

Just then papa slipped in the mud. Oh no! His new grey jacket was all muddy and wet. I saw him shivering to the bone. I felt that we had to go home now.

We were passing the highstreet to see if there was any coats store that was still open. To our disappointment, all the stores were closed. We gradually made some progress to go back home. I offered my coat, because I now could see that his fingers were turning blue and purple. He denied the offer. We continued our slow walk home, when we passed a homeless person. He took pity on papa and gave him his blue coat. Papa thanked him very much and gave him £100. The homeless person replied "No, I should thank you for your generous gift."

The blue coat really helped papa, and now we started to walk briskly towards home.

When we got home, my mom was shocked just looking at papa. He was all dirty and frozen. My mom asked how did he become like this. I explained everything from the beginning to the end. About how he slipped in the mud, his grey jacket was wet, the kind homeless person, etc.

From that day on, papa was never angry again and always treasured that coat. The blue coat.
